It kind of mixes pixel art with cell-shaded animated characters, a bit reminiscent of 90’s adventure games. I had a playtester give me a lovely compliment, saying it reminded him of the classic PC game Alone in the Dark, before I even mentioned it. It made my day to hear that, thank you, Alex. And yes, it totally was one of my inspirations.

Recently I have been working on a narrative design project. It is to learn more about how finding documents or seeing things in the game world, can give the player a sense of the narrative. This kind of design is often used in adventure games like Syberia, Myst and recently games like The Case of the golden Idol and Return of the Obra Dinn, which are great games. I suppose one can say that I’m quite inspired by those.

In my case Im trying to research how visual and textual context can inform the player about a narrative in the game. In a way that they have to put together the pieces to find out what has happened in the game world, sort of like a jig-saw puzzle. Which on a side note, I got inspired by when seeing a cartoon themed puzzle in the supermarket, which I also bought for reference! For now I still have alot of work to do on the game functionality, and I wish visitors of my blog a cheerful holiday season.

Welcome to my blog. This is my first post and I’m glad you found your way here through the web.

So recently I’m working on a prototype in Unity for a school project. It is for an essay – exploring narrative design in video games. At this point, I am trying to decide which artstyle to use, and I am leaning towards pixelart, since it is faster, than modeling 3d objects. Although I might do a mix of both, to have an unusual look.

Next, I need to get the basic functionality working, such as movement and interaction with objects. By my experience here is where it is easy to over scope, and I know it is better to just add what is needed and be happy with that – since time is never enough for this kinds of projects. I look forward to share more progress in the future. Until then have a good one!
